Hi everyone! I know I’ve been a bit lax with new content but I’ve been working on a lot of things and have been a bit short on cash overall. I’m happy to be back with a new review for the Pony Effect Master Eye Palette in the theme Holographic/Pastel! I’ve been wanting to try some Pony Effect products since the launch (I still have my eyes on the Customizing Lip Palette). For those who don’t know, Pony is a Korean makeup artist. She has done makeup for the likes of Kpop star CL among others! She launched her Pony Effect label in conjunction with Memebox a few years ago. The colors in this palette are subdued with a shimmering twist! They’re unlike most of the colors I normally use and seemed great for Spring and Summer. The shades are supposed to be smooth and double as highlighters. Let’s see how it fared!
Upon opening this palette, I immediately fell in love with the packaging! The palette is a simple with a sleek black and gold design. Along the side with the magnetic closure you can see the Pony Effect logo. The magnetic closure is easy and functional, but I’m curious to see how well it holds up. It definitely makes the palette less likely to open up in your bag at first; however, my experience has been that magnets loose strength over time. Here’s hoping Pony’s palette stays snugly closed when it should!
Overall, the palette feels sturdy and well made and has a large mirror inside. All of the descriptions on the box are in Korean except the shade names. I say this packaging is a win!
The Pony Effect Holographic Palette comes with eight shades. The mix of colors comes across as a bit odd at first! There are peachy/orange hues (Daydream, Illusions, Uncover). Then there are the holographic shades, Invisible (pink), Prism (light green), and Fantasy (blue) which are all very cool toned. Lastly are the shades Majestic, a medium shimmery brown with a slight gold reflect, and Unreal, a warm toned shimmer gray with a silvery reflect. The first time I did a look with this palette, I didn’t pay attention to the color tones and ended up looking a hot mess! Now that I know better, I think the color selection of this palette is actually really cool! It’s unique and can create both more simple daytime looks as well as shimmery nighttime or even festival looks! Not all of the colors can be worn together but the variety is fun.
The application and wear of these shades is good overall! Uncover the peachy matte is the only shade I’m not completely happy with. It is a bit chalky and the color payoff on the eye isn’t great. Otherwise, these shades are beautiful! They apply smoothly and blend well. The color payoff is also good based on the standard of Korean eye shadow and the more muted color palette. I love the versatility of the holographic shades. They make a great highlighter for both the inner corner of the eye and the cheeks and nose if colored highlighter is your thing!
The longevity of these shades is great. They wore all day without creasing or fading substantially (in very hot humid weather I might add!). Example pics below (notice how my foundation melted but my eye shadow stayed nice):
I really like this palette! It has fun colors that have decent color payoff and are multi-functional. The packaging is beautiful and would be great for traveling. If you like the pastel color selection, I would definitely recommend giving it a try. I personally think I’ll use this palette more for highlighting than eye makeup (my eye taste is a bit less subtle but not quite so shimmery) but if you need/want some summer peachy tones with a holographic twist, this palette is for you! You can find the Pony Effect Master Eye Palette Holographic from Memebox’s official Amazon store here (they no longer sell to the U.S. on their original site 🙁 ).
Have you tried any of the Pony Effect eye shadows? What are your thoughts on holographic highlighter? Let me know in the comments! And as always thanks for reading and until next time bisous!
