Review: Winky Lux Matte Lip Velours

Hi everyone! Today’s review is going to be the in-depth look at one of my favorite new lip products: the Matte Lip Velours from Winky Lux! If you aren’t familiar with Winky Lux, you can check my brand spotlight here. I’ll be reviewing two shades called Voodoo and Mermaid of these super pigmented matte lipsticks. On to the details!

I’m not sure I could possibly love this packaging any more! *insert heart emojis and praise hands* <3 <3 <3 Just look at how pretty it is! The pictures don’t even begin to do it justice.

Each of the lip velours comes packaged in these adorable pill shaped containers. They are lightweight (you can tell Winky Lux minimizes costs by using lighter weight materials than prestige brands) but they function perfectly and lose none of there luxuriousness as a result. The only downside is that if you have multiples like I do you won’t be able to tell them apart unless you keep them in the boxes. Not too much of a downside because the boxes are super cute too! They have a full ingredients list and description on them just in case you were wondering 😉

The lipsticks are beautifully pigmented. I can get full color payoff with just one swipe over my lips. I am also impressed with how nice of a matte they are as a traditional lipstick. They come pretty close to rivaling my liquid lipsticks for the matte factor. All of them are made with vanilla ( Voodoo smells like vanilla!) and are paraben and cruelty free. The color Voodoo is a true matte black. It is so gorgeous! Mermaid is a stunning medium-deep green with slight blue undertones. Both of the colors feel smooth and go on effortlessly. They don’t drag or pull when applying and the formula feels satin-y They are also non-drying. Even as someone who often has horribly chapped lips, these lipsticks kept my lips smooth. Did I mention in addition to being cruelty free these are made in the U.S.?

I found that these stayed really well throughout the day. I didn’t have issues with them smearing heavily or feathering. They lasted well through drinking but might require a slight touch up after eating. They don’t set to a stain like some lip products, but that just makes them easier to take off at the end of the day. Again, they didn’t make my lips feel drier than normal either. I wore Mermaid for 8 hours with no touch ups to take these before and after pics.

While the color did fade (no touch ups at all) note the general lack of movement/feathering!

I adore these Lip Velours! These particular colors are great, and Winky Lux has many more both unconventional and classic. They have good longevity, the pigmentation is crazy good, and they are incredibly pretty to look at. And at $14, they are pretty affordable given the quality. I would totally recommend these and look forward to picking up a couple of more colors myself! You can find the entire Matte Lip Velour Collection on the Winky Lux website here.
